About
Steepwood

88 acres of West Virginia hill country. Built by hand. Built with intention.

The Story

First
the land.

Steepwood started because of the land. Largely untouched on our first visit the ideas immediately began flowing. How to develop. How to preserve. How to create something special. Our ideas evolve, but "special" feels within grasp as we move forward. This land will be developed slowly — one cabin at a time — with craftsmanship and harmony with nature operating as our guiding principals.

Who are we? We're a family operation. Two brothers who have worked in construction building tiny homes, commercial projects, and custom furniture. A wife who helps us avoid terrible interior design decisions, and a constant stream of support in varying ways from family and friends. Come say hello.

How we
approach it.

01
Build it right

Every cabin on the property is designed and built to last. Quality materials, thoughtful design, and craftsmanship across both the big and small components of each build.

02
Preserve Nature. Preserve Privacy.

Each build site is selected to minimize disruption of the natural environment. This selection process preserves a sense of privacy across the property. Each stay feels secluded to its nook of nature.

03
Make it easy

We aim to think of everything so you don't have to. High speed internet, fully equipped kitchens, clear directions. We handle the logistics, you enjoy the experience.

The Property

88 acres
mostly trees.

The property runs along a wooded ridgeline in Nicholas County. Forested with native hardwoods — hemlock, birch, oak. There are rugged hiking trails throughout the acreage and an abutting plot of army corps of engineers land runs into Summerville Lake State Wildlife Area for the adventurous hiker.

Sunsets can be viewed from lookout rock at the top of property and wildlife sightings are common. The cabins sit back from the road with gated access. Summersville is just down the hill — grocery, gas, restaurants — but once you're through the gate, you wouldn't know it.
